One of the biggest festivals of silent movie and new music in East Europe.
MINIMATIKON – a silent movie score project – performed at the MUTE NIGHTS SILENT FILM FESTIVAL 2013 in Odessa, Ukraine. The ensemble composed a score and played live to UKRAZIJA – a silent movie made in 1925.
MUTE NIGHTS SILENT FILM FESTIVAL is a European silent movie festival, held annually in June in Odessa, Ukraine. It was in Odessa that first Ukrainian movies wre made, which made the city a natural choice for a silent movie festival. The idea behind the festival is to help popularize silent movie classics by means of contemporary music interpretations, performed live by European musicians. It also strives to apply a modern context of contemporary art to Ukrainian avant-garde movies, made by Aleksander Dovzhenko, Dziga Wiertow, Ivan Kavaleridze, Heorhiy Stabovyi and others.
